Mykonos 2022: DJ and party schedules, regular music events and season closing dates

With the arrival of autumn, the Greek Islands have moved into shoulder season — and even on busy Mykonos, the atmosphere has become much quieter, with a noticeably more chill and relaxed vibe than the frenetic and crowded party months of July and August.

As happens every September, clubs and restaurants gradually begin to close as the tourist crowds slowly thin out. The pace of closures picks up in early October and accelerates by mid-month. Sometimes businesses provide advance notice of their season finale parties or closing dates but, more often, venues shutter their doors with little or no prior announcement.

Below is a listing of popular beach clubs, nightclubs and restaurants that have already wrapped up their operations or that have announced their season-ending party celebrations.

On page 3 of this post, you can see our at-a-glance roundup of regular DJ shows, parties and live music events that took place on Mykonos this summer on each day of the week, along with some of the summer event calendars for major clubs including Alemagou, Cavo Paradiso, Ftelia Pacha, Sanctus, SantAnna, Super Paradise, The Sanctuary, Tropicana and Void. They will give you an idea of the events you might expect to find if you happen to visit Mykonos during 2023.

Mosaic is party central every night during Christmas Week 2022

Vegera will close out 2022 and ring in 2023 with parties on Friday December 30, Saturday the 31st, and Sunday January 1. DJ Simos Anastasopoulos will be on the decks for all three parties.

Velanos will be ringing in the New Year with a December 31 party featuring music by DJ Babis Lazos

DJs MaPet and Jerry will be on the decks for the New Year’s Eve Party at Mosaic on December 31

Appaloosa Restaurant & Bar has announced it will remain open during the holiday season from 7 p.m. daily (except Mondays and Tuesdays, when it will be closed).

Rizes Folklore Farmstead has announced that its restaurant will be open Saturdays and Sundays, from noon until 9 p.m., for the winter season

This fall, DJ Thanos Desypris will be playing “mainstream vibes” every night after 8 p.m. at Promenade

Beginning November 14, the Vegera Mykonos bar will be open only on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. for drinks, music and dancing. Food won’t be available — the Vegera restaurant kitchen will be closed for the winter.

Paloma Bar will be open for Friday and Saturday night parties until December 18. After a Christmas and holiday break, the bar will re-open on January 13 2023.

Season closing events and announcements

Mykonos Brewing Company, makers of the island’s iconic Mikonu craft beer, will be closed for the holiday season starting on December 23. The brewery will reopen on January 4.

On December 18, Lovemeze restaurant in Ano Mera announced that it has permanently closed, after three years of operation

The Cook in Ano Mera will be taking a holiday break starting on December 16. The restaurant will re-open on January 16.

El Burro will hold its season closing party on Sunday December 11, with music by DJ Nick Sintilas

Sunday December 4 is season closing day for Apozouraki cafe in Ano Mera. The cafe says it will reopen in the new year “with many changes and many new surprises.”

Local Mykonos BBQ & Souvlaki ends its season on November 30

Jayont Coffee Brunch & More in Ano Mera will celebrate the end of its first season with a closing party on Wednesday November 30. It won’t be closed for too long, though — Jayont says it plans to reopen on February 19 for the 2023 season.

Bistrot de Nicolas is serving its winter menu until November 26, when it will be closing for an extended break. Until the 26th, the restaurant will be open Tuesday through Saturday nights, from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Aperanto Galazio restaurant at Ornos beach announced the end of its season on November 8

Captain’s — Food for Sharing mezedopoleio opened for the final time this season on Sunday November 6. “The good times are taking a break. We’ll be back in early 2023,” the restaurant said in a season-closing post on its social media pages.

The Liberty Breakfast Room ended its season on November 6

November 6 is closing day for To Steki Tou Proedrou taverna in Ano Mera

November 6 is closing day for the Paprika Souvlaki & Pizza restaurant in Drafaki. The Paprika store in Ano Mera will remain open a few days longer.

November 3 was the last day of the season for Kavos Fish Taverna

On November 1, Branco Mykonos Beach Resort announced the end of its season

On November 1, Oniro Sunset Bar & Restaurant at the Mykonos View Hotel announced the end of its season

On November 1, Souvlaki Story Taverna in Argyraina announced it has closed for the winter. However, the Souvlaki Story location on Enoplon Dinameon Street will remain open a little while longer.

Mykonos bar & club openings, parties & events in 2020

Couldn’t make it to Mykonos to party this year? The music video Mama Bonita by Kristo Featuring Eva, released September 14, was shot primarily on the island and is chalk full of Mykonos town, beach, sea, villa and hotel scenery.

DJ Giannis Papasilekas will play at El Burro on Thursday November 5 and Friday November 6

Taverna Kandavlos will present live musical entertainment on the afternoon of Sunday November 1

Beginning with the weekend of October 24 & 25, El Burro will present music entertainment by DJ Giannis Papasilekas every Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. Because of limited indoor table seating availability, reservations will be required for these events.

Going to Mykonos after the middle of September? Some Covid-related restrictions that could impact your vacation are still in effect on the island.

From September 15 until further notice from the government, bars and restaurants must continue to close at midnight every day, and cannot reopen before 7 a.m. However, businesses can offer food and beverage takeaway and delivery service beyond the midnight closing time.

In addition, there is a limit on the number of people allowed to participate in any public or social event. No more than 50 people can attend public or social gatherings, regardless of whether they take place in a public or private location. These include ceremonies such as weddings, baptisms and funerals, banquet-type receptions and festivities, and other events geared to large groups.

The special measures are part of the Greek government’s efforts to control and limit the spread of coronavirus, as new cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in many parts of the country.

Stringent restrictions were implemented on Mykonos on August 19 after the island experienced an increase in the number of people testing positive for the coronavirus around the middle of that month.

The rules took effect on Friday August 21, and stipulated that:

♦ Masks had to be worn indoors AND outdoors;

♦ Live parties, trade fairs, public markets, parades and processions could not take place;

♦ There was a ban on any kind of gathering of more than 9 people, for any reason, whether in public or in private

♦ in restaurant dining areas, a maximum of 4 people would be allowed to sit at the same table (a maximum of 6 in the case of immediate members of families)

In addition, the existing requirement that bars and restaurants close from midnight to 7 a.m. every day was extended until August 31. (The midnight shutdown originally was supposed to end on August 23.)

The government has since extended all of the above restrictions to September 15 as it strives to fend off an expected second wave of the coronavirus after cases spiked in a number of destinations in Greece.

Police on Mykonos had been enforcing the mask rule by issuing €150 tickets to some people who didn’t comply; however, mask wearing was not required for people sunbathing or swimming at beaches and pools. Government officials also inspected businesses on the island to ensure they were complying with the coronavirus safety measures.

The government’s strict enforcement of some measures made international headlines on Tuesday September 1, when officials with the General Secretariat of Civil Protection conducted surprise inspections on two of the island’s best-known beach clubs, Nammos and Scorpios, and tested their employees for coronavirus. Following the inspection, the government ordered the two clubs to cease operations until September 4. According to media reports, the Scorpios staff all tested negative for the virus, so the club was allowed to re-open on September 4. At Nammos, on the other hand, two employees tested positive, and authorities ordered the club to stay closed for an additional 10 days. The club hired lawyers to appeal that decision, but ultimately decided to close early for the season and shuttered the premises on September 7, saying the club will reopen at the end of April in 2021.

Since then, at least three other beach clubs — Lohan Beach House, Solymar and Pinky Beach — have closed for the season, and a number of restaurants and bars have also shut for the winter, including Adelon Sunset Bar, Busulas, Bakalo, Catari and Fokos Taverna. More restaurants as well as hotels are expected to close unusually early this year because tourist traffic is down tremendously this September — normally a busy month.

If you do travel to the island toward the end of this month, expect a quiet low-season atmosphere without the typical September buzz.

Mykonos is the prominent supporting star in the new music video Χωρις Εσενα, released July 23 by Greek singer Giorgos Tsalikis. During the summer, Giorgos and his band performed live at 4711 club for 65 nights.

The Dublin presents live music entertainment by Dimitris Drosinis on the evenings of November 29 and 30, and on the afternoon of Sunday December 1

Apostolis G. will DJ the Sunday Party at El Burro on December 1

Rustic Grill hosts its weekly Karaoke Party on Wednesday December 4 starting at 9 p.m.

What’s happening: Mykonos is in end-of-season mode, with bars, clubs and restaurants either closing up shop or preparing to wind down operations.

As usual, the last weekend of September is closing party time for numerous establishments, including Scorpios, Moni, The Garden, JackieO’ Beach, and Elysium Hotel’s popular Sunset Cabaret.

Parties are continuing at many bars in Mykonos Town, however, and beach parties are still going strong at Paradise beach, where Tropicana will be open until October 20.Page 2 of this post contains promotional flyers showing daily beach parties, regular weekly events and special event series.

Madon club kicks of its 2018 “Summer Revolution” on Friday May 25

Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan already has a nightclub in Athens (Lohan Nightclub), and for several years has been talking about plans to open a beach club on Mykonos. That time has come — Lohan Beach House will make a soft opening on Saturday May 26 with its first Showtime afternoon program featuring R&B, Afrobeats and Afrohouse. You’ll find Lohan Beach House at Kalo Livadi beach.

The former Paradise Club has an all-new name and completed renovated venue for summer 2017 — it’s now the TRU Paradise beach club and restaurant and it hosts special party events with big-name DJs from time to time. Feature acts for Tuesday July 25, for example, were Ummet Ozcan and 2 Faced Funks.

Alemagou will be hosting nine EΘER events this summer, a series of new concept parties being held between July 12 and September 1.

Alemagou also is hosting Odyssey, a “5-week sunset-session residency curated by Tale Of Us.” These parties begin Wednesday July 19 and continue each Wednesday evening (from 5 p.m. til midnight) until August 16.

JackieO’ Beach club introduces Wedanceday Experience for summer 2017. The “fashion-themed” parties feature a team of 12 resident artists and DJs whose mission is to unite with the crowd on the dance floor and, through their unique artistic expression, elevate all participants “to a state of pure happiness and pure party feeling.” The parties will be held each Wednesday from July 19 through to August 23.

The 7 restaurants you simply must try on Mykonos

Lobster pasta and freshly-caught sea urchins are two of the signature dishes that writer Heather Warburton recommends ordering at Spilia. It was one of her seven favourite restaurants on a recent trip to Mykonos.

There are many reasons to go to Mykonos—the color of the water alone, the music, and the stunning villas—but, undoubtedly, the food scene will convince you. If you intend to eat light and vegetarian, you’ll find no better place, and then again, if you’re more into feta cheese and baklava, you’ll be just fine, too.

I spent five days in Mykonos in early July, and these were my favorite restaurants:

♦ Scorpios

Scorpios is one of the only places to succeed in being both a terrific restaurant, and a really fun party. On a charming stretch of Paraga Beach, Scorpios is a sprawling compound. There’s an indoor area that’s light and spacious, with comfortable couches and a well-designed bar. If you come early in the day (read: before noon), you might see people working on their laptops sipping a green juice. Outside there is one large bar, a deck, a beach with over 40 lounge “beds,” and finally, a restaurant.

Despite its massive size, Scorpios boasts impeccable, friendly service and an intimate vibe. Graze on tzatziki, hummus, and spicy pita chips while waiting for a table. They’ll be the best pita chips of your life. You’ll find a vegetable driven menu once seated, with Mykonian salads (tomatoes, capers, cucumbers and feta cheese), whole roasted fish with your choice of sauce, and so many others. (I loved the quinoa with raisins and the zucchini with fresh mint). Their cocktail list is particularly impressive and long, with innovative and not-overly-sweet takes on your spirit of choice.

Go for a late lunch or sunset dinner.

Daily party events

The island’s main party beaches are Paradise, Super Paradise and Paraga, where beach parties start in the afternoon and continue into the evening. At Paradise, parties start around 4 p.m. at Tropicana Club and at Guapaloca, while partying can begin as early as mid afternoon at Super Paradise Club at Super Paradise beach. Guapaloca also throws a body painting partyk every night at 10 p.m. At Paraga, you’ll find afternoon beach parties at Kalua, daily pool parties at 5 p.m. at Sueno Village, and music entertainment events most days of the week at Scorpios. Parties can spontaneously erupt at Psarou beach, as well, when guests at Nammos beach bar and restaurant feel the urge to let loose (and they often do).

In Mykonos Town, Semeli Hotel holds a Sun:Set party at 6 p.m. every day in its Semeli Lounge. The Elysium Hotel in the School of Fine Arts district presents its famous Sunset Cabaret on its seaview pool terrace every evening starting at 8:30 p.m., while @54 Club has nightly drag shows starring Roxy Brooks and dancer Matthew Malia at 1 a.m. At the 4711 live music club, Dionisis Sxoinas will perform nightly (except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from July 21 through to August 21.

Regular weekly events

Besides special one-time events featuring leading Greek and international DJs, some bars and beach clubs hold regular theme parties on specific days of the week. Here are some of the regular events being offered during July and August this summer:

Monday: Kalua holds its Skin Orgasm Party with Ms Lefki starting at 5 p.m., while at Kalo Livadi beach, DJ Maga spins chill tunes at the new Chinawhite by Rakkan, starting at 4 pm.

Tuesday: Scorpios hosts the Yoruba Soul Experience music event, starting at 5 p.m. Madon presents its weekly Propaganda party starting at midnight. Vinos bar features live jazz music from 10 p.m., and Dome Club has its Showtime Tuesdays party.

Wednesday: Kalua presents its Spirit party starting at 5 p.m.; Pinky Beach at Super Paradise hosts an After Beach Dine & Dance party with music by DJ Thanos starting at 6 p.m.; Toy Room Club hosts Toy Room on Fire, where the dress code is Red and music is by DJ Silence; and Rock N’ Roll Mykonos hosts special parties presented by Sintillate, with hip hop, RNB and house music by DJ Skaterboi.

Thursday: Hippie Fish at Agios Ioannis beach throws its Peace Love Music parties starting at 1 p.m.; and Scorpios presents its weekly Movements music event at 5 p.m. And starting at 10 p.m., Vinos bar presents live jazz music.

Friday: Scorpios holds its weekly Ceremonia music event beginning at 5 p.m.; Kalua holds its weekly Obsessions party with DJ Agent Greg starting at 5 p.m.; Blu Blu Lounge presents its Blu Sunset party with “eclectic” music by DJ Dest starting at 7.30 p.m.; and The Dublin pub at Agios Stefanos presents live Greek rock music with local band the VBros starting at 10:30 p.m.

Saturday: Monarch at Platis Gialos beach holds its weekly Blackrock Sinful Sunset beach party starting at 5 p.m.

Sunday: Liasti beach resort offers live saxophone music and jazz vocals in its restaurant area. The weekly day-to-night Sneaky Sundays music event takes place at Scorpios beginning at 5 p.m.; Toy Room Club hosts its weekly Incognito Masked Ball; and DJ Giannis Zissis from Athens spins at Dome Club.

Party announcements are added to this post whenever they are released, so check back regularly for updates. I usually add new events every day, and sometimes more than once a day. Note that most bars and clubs don’t post their full party schedules for the summer, and sometimes announce special events or DJ appearances as little as one to three days before they take place.
