In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Mykonos department of culture, sport and youth will present Music Diamonds, a tribute to great women of song, including Barbara Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and others.  The event takes place Saturday March 7 at 8 p.m. in the Grypareio Cultural Center.

Nikos Sapountzakis was scheduled to perform at Central on Saturday March 14; however, the bar has announced it is cancelling the show, and other live music events that had been planned for spring, as a precaution against the coronavirus. Central says its live events will resume in the fall.

 

The March 15 Sunday Party at El Burro has been cancelled in accordance with Greek government directives aimed at controlling the spread of the coronavirus.

XLSIOR Festival Cancelled

The  XLSIOR Mykonos Festival, originally scheduled take place August 19 to 26, has officially been cancelled, for reasons explained in this July 15 notice from event organizers. XLSIOR is one of the world’s biggest annual gay festivals, and for the past 10 years has been the biggest multi-day party event to take place on Mykonos each summer.  

 

Covid-19 safety measures, news and special announcements

 

On September 1, Scorpios (top image) and Nammos (bottom photo) were ordered to stay closed for 48 hours after officials conducted surprise inspections of both beach clubs to check for compliance with the Greek government’s special coronavirus safety measures. Scorpios was subsequently allowed to re-open on September 4; however, Nammos was ordered to stay shut for a further 10 days. However, Nammos decided to close for the season on September 7.

 

Porta Bar, pictured in the top photo, posted the above notice on its social media accounts on August 23 to explain that it will remain closed until stringent government coronavirus safety measures have ended. The current regulations do not allow customers to stand in bars, and the limited availability for physically-distanced seating arrangements in small bars and clubs, like Porta, makes it extremely challenging if not nearly impossible for businesses to operate.

Alemagou shared this  message on its Instagram account on August 9  as an update to a previous notice explaining why the club is temporarily closed. On August 6, Greek media reported that 6 more of Alemagou’s staff have since tested positive for the coronavirus, so the club must stay closed while all employees complete an isolation period.

 

Mykonos Boat Club has announced that its sunset party cruises have been discontinued until further notice, due to the new Covid-19 control restrictions put in place in early August by the Greek government. As an alternative, the company is offering “Hola Rhenia” all-inclusive day tours to Rhenia island.

Skandinavian Bar issued this notice about its new hours of operation beginning on Tuesday August 11
