On two flights from Santorini to Athens, other people snapped away without any objection, while the same was true last May when the fellow sitting in the window seat in my row (I was stuck on the aisle) got many great photos of Mykonos Town and some of the gorgeous Mykonos beaches as our plane circled the island during its descent. Jealous that I had not been assigned the window seat, I had to content myself with admiring the images in his viewfinder.

I really wish I had ignored the flight attendants on our Athens to Kos flight in May 2010. One of the attendants saw me taking my camera out of my carry-on bag, and told me photography was strictly forbidden. Because of heavy ground traffic at Kos airport, our plane was ordered to circle the island to await a landing slot, and those of us with window seats got treated to tremendous views of the entire island for more than 10 minutes.

I could have snapped some amazing pics of Milos and surrounding islands during an Olympic Air flight in September 2007, but didn’t have easy access to my camera and settled for watching the scenery instead.

Below are the photos that I have managed to take; all but one were shot during our Athens to Astipalea flight in 2009.

Makronisos Island in Greece

Two ferries pass Makronisos Island near the Greek mainland. I snapped this photo during a flight from Mykonos to Athens, just seconds before a flight attendant ordered me to stop taking pictures.
