Mykonos party scene 2017

Tropicana Club Mykonos

Tropicana club is back with its signature afternoon beach parties, beginning on Thursday April 27

~ updated on Sunday March 19 ~

Excitement building: It’s still winter but people have been messaging me for more than two months to ask for information about party schedules and special events taking place on Mykonos this summer.  I wish I could tell you specific dates that top DJs will be appearing on the island, but the simple truth is that it’s just too early — the island’s biggest and most popular clubs typically don’t announce their full summer party rosters and DJ lineups until late May or mid-June.

So far, only one venue — Scarpa Bar at the Little Venice seafront — has offered a hint of what’s in store for this  summer.  Scarpa this week announced that Dino MFU will be notching his 10th anniversary of summer residency at the club, so a series of special parties will be held over the course of the summer to mark the occasion.  Scarpa also announced that Ms. Lefki and Ionas Feenstra will be Scarpa’s other resident DJs, while the club has been upgraded with new sound and light systems. Dino will be on the decks for the bar’s official opening parties on Friday April 7 and Saturday April 8.

Another popular party spot in Mykonos Town, Room 101, also will be opening on Friday April 7, while  Nammos, the iconic restaurant and beach bar venue at Psarou beach,  will open on April 8.  Buddha-Bar Beach, at the Santa Marina resort at Ornos, starts its season on Monday May 15.

Speaking of Nammos, it will be hosting DJ Vassili TsiliChristos and his hugely popular Made in Mykonos party again this summer. Mark your calendar for Saturday July 29 if you’re planning to attend.

Nammos Mykonos party event 2017

Nammos at Psarou beach will once again present DJ Vassili TsiliChristos and his Made in Mykonos show, one of the most popular annual parties on the island. This year’s event takes place on July 29.

I can also give you the dates for the XLSIOR Festival, the biggest annual party and music event on Mykonos. One of the world’s premier gay festivals, it will feature daytime and night parties at various beaches, bars and clubs around the island from August 23 to 30, and is expecting as many as 30,000 participants from around the globe. Full party schedules and DJ lineups for XLSIOR won’t be released until early August, though, so there’s nothing more I can tell you at this time about specific party themes or which DJs will be on the decks for each event.

XLSIOR Festival is the biggest annual party on Mykonos, and is expected to draw up to 30,000 participants from August 23 to 30

When are the best parties? For those of you who haven’t been to Mykonos before but are planning to visit this year, keep in mind that peak travel season — as well as peak party season — is during July and August, with August being the wildest and most crowded month on the island. If you like things crazy-busy, and want to catch appearances by the world’s top DJs, August is absolutely the best time to go. If you can’t make it that month, July is almost as good — there’s nearly as many events taking place, and plenty of leading international DJs will be headlining at the clubs then as well.

Since Mykonos is primarily a summer destination, the party scene can seem low-key or sometimes even subdued during months other than July and August. That’s because the big holiday crowds haven’t yet hit the island, so the partying doesn’t get as fierce and frenzied in May, June or September as it does during of peak season.

The most popular place to chill, dine, drink and party on Mykonos last year was Scorpios, and its Sneaky Sundays event featuring Sneaky Sound System was the hottest weekly party on the island

Paradise Club is perennially one of the most popular party spots on the island. It’s at Paradise beach — for years the top party beach on Mykonos.

What’s happening:  Now that it is spring, some Mykonos bars and clubs have opened for the 2016 tourist season, while others have begun announcing the dates they will re-open.

Ling Ling got things off to an early start on March 23 when it kicked off its second season on Mykonos. It was followed in early April by Passo Doble Cocktail Bar, the JackieO’ bar in Mykonos Town, and Room 101. Mid-April saw the opening of popular gay hangouts Lola and Porta Bar, along with Galleraki Bar and Vicolo Bar at Little Venice. Scarpa Bar and Semeli Bar in Little Venice will open in late April, as will Thalami Bar behind the Mykonos Town Hall, and Remezzo near the Old Port. Beach parties resumed in mid-April with Guapaloca Bar and Tropicana Club opening at Paradise Beach. They will be joined the last week of April by Nammos at Psarou beach and Kalua Bar at Paraga. And in May,  Scorpios will celebrate its grand re-opening at Paraga beach.

Speaking of beach clubs, there will be at least two new spots to check out this summer. Rakkan Mykonos will be opening in late May at Kalo Livadi beach, while Monarch has moved to Platis Gialos beach. See my post New beach bar/restaurant venues coming to Mykonos for further details about those two places.

Party schedules will be posted here when available

Bookmark this page and keep checking back — I will be updating this post with information about bar & club openings, and DJ schedules, as soon as events are announced. Keep in mind that the island’s biggest party clubs generally don’t post detailed summer party lineups until late May to mid June, while many bars don’t publicize their season kick-off celebrations until shortly before they open their doors.

For information about ticket prices, advance booking, table reservations and VIP services, please contact the specific clubs you are interested in.

Paradise Club owners saying goodbye after 10 years of making party history on Mykonos

Paradise Club Mykonos thank you banner

This banner was posted on the Paradise Club Facebook page March 16

End of an era: The owners of Paradise Club, one of the biggest and most popular party places on Mykonos, are bidding adieu to their business.

In a post to the club’s Facebook page on Monday March 16, Thomas Heyne and Mario Hertel announced they are saying goodbye after entertaining hundreds of thousands of people from around the world at the famous Paradise Beach nightspot.

“Dear Friends:  After 10 years and another phenomenal season in 2014 we announce our decision to say goodbye to Paradise Club Mykonos. We want to thank everyone who supported us in the last 10 years! Whats next? Stay tuned, we´re excited to announce our new project very soon! See you in Mykonos!” Heyne and Hertel say in their Facebook post.

Paradise Club has been one of the top party venues in the Mediterranean and in the world; last year, it was ranked #20 on the DJ Mag list of the Top 100 clubs in the world. DJ Mag has also rated it as “one of the 7 best clubs by the sea.” Many of the world’s most popular DJs have appeared at Paradise Club over the last decade.

Fans mistakenly feared club was shut down

The announcement did not indicate if the Paradise Club venue has been sold to someone else who will continue to operate it as a party club, or if Heyne and Hertel’s new project will be opening in the space instead. That sparked a torrent of Facebook posts from club fans expressing shock, dismay and disappointment at the news. Many assumed the announcement meant Paradise Club had closed its doors for good, throwing a wrench into their party plans for summer vacations they have already scheduled.

However, on Tuesday March 17 a post on another Paradise Club Facebook page announced that the venue will host its grand opening party on Wednesday May 20, indicating that the venue will continue to operate without Heyne and Hertel at the helm. The post also said the summer’s DJ lineup “is full of your favorite stars & will be announced soon. Get ready for summer 2015. It’s gonna be mad!!!”

I thought something might be in the works with the club since, for the past several months, its website has redirected visitors to the site for the San Giorgio Hotel, which Heyne and Hertel also own.

I will update this report once I hear any news about what Heyne and Hertel’s new venture will be.

Music Only By Night

Looking to party on Mykonos during the  winter? Music Only By Night is a new bar and dance club that opened November 6 at the Gialos harbourfront in Mykonos Town

{Updated November 7 2015. Summer is long past and the main party season on Mykonos has concluded, though you’ll find a number of bars open in Mykonos Town throughout the winter (some of which feature live Greek musical entertainment). Party venues will begin reopening early next spring, as the promotional images for Guapaloca and Paradise Beach Club (below) indicate. If you would like to get an idea of what the island’s party scene is like, turn to page 2  of this post. It contains an extensive list of events that took place from March through the end of October in 2015. You can expect similar event scheduling in 2016. ]

Where to get your groove on: With September’s arrival, peak travel season on Mykonos has passed — and that means the party season is starting to wind down. The party isn’t over by any means, but it just won’t be as frenzied and crazy as it got during July and August.

The Mykonos party scene started revving up in early spring when bars and clubs gradually began to open. Paradise Lounge was the first beach venue to open in 2015 — on March 25, to be precise — while über-stylish Nammos restaurant and bar at Psarou beach launched its season 10 days later, on April 4.

April 4 was the day the party scene in Mykonos Town kicked off with a bang — that’s when Room 101 dance club held its opening party featuring DJ Diversion.

Since then all the island’s top bars and clubs have opened their doors, and a slew of newcomers — including the new beach clubs Scorpios and Monarch, plus Toy Room, Project, Bonbonniere, Breeze and Vicolo in Mykonos Town — have joined in.

This post contains a day-by-day, month-by-month listing of all bar and club parties that were announced on social media this year.

[Editor’s update: This report has been updated with information about special events taking place during August 2014. Be sure to check my post Beach parties on Mykonos this summer for updates on August events taking place specifically at Mykonos beach clubs.]

Summer sizzle: July 1 marks the start of the peak summer party season on Mykonos, and with two new club openings and a host of additional entertainment events just announced, the island is set to cement its reputation as one of the top party destinations in the Mediterranean.

Here’s a look at some of the parties and special performances that will be rocking Mykonos this month:

 Nova Club grand opening

July kicks off with opening celebrations for a new high-end social club and special event venue, Nova, which is located in the Lakka Square area of Mykonos Town. The exclusive private members’ club will be open from 23:00 (11 p.m.) every night and promises to offer “the highest class and sophistication.” The Nova Club Facebook page recommends “dressy” attire for guests, and says walk-ins are welcome, though table reservations can also be made by contacting the club.

Check the club’s Facebook page as well as the Nova Mykonos Twitter feed for further information.

Cavo & Tropicana release summer DJ lineups

Cavo Paradiso Mykonos

The Cavo Paradiso DJ lineup for July and August 2014

Party planning: In my Beach parties on Mykonos post last month, I promised to update information about upcoming events as news became available. I can now report that the two biggest beach clubs on Mykonos have released the DJ entertainment lineups for their 2014 summer events.

Cavo Paradiso posted a list of its July and August events on its Facebook page today. The schedule shows that events will be held every night in July and each night in August until the 25th of that month. Headlining acts for several parties at the end of July and two in  August have not yet been named, but the club says it expects to confirm the “to be announced” DJs shortly. The schedule does not yet include events for September, and does not indicate when Cavo will hold its season-closing party.

Paradise Club has posted a more extensive event listing on its website, showing the DJ lineup for more than 50 events taking place between now and its closing party on September 20.  It, too, has several “to be announced” gigs for which the entertainment has yet to be confirmed.

Tickets for Paradise Club events can be purchased in advance through an online order form on the club’s website. VIP tables also can be booked in advance through a separate section of the website; click here for a direct link to that page.

Tables reservations for Cavo Paradiso events can be booked in advance but full prepayment is required. Further details and contact information are available on the newly-redesigned Cavo Paradiso website.

Both clubs are located at Paradise beach.

Paradise Club Mykonos

A promotional flyer listing the names of acts that will appear at Paradise Club this summer was posted on the venue’s Facebook page

Scroll down to view promotional flyers for the August parties at the two big Paradise beach clubs (Paradise Club and Cavo Paradiso) as well as for events at other beach venues.]

Event announcements: The 2014 party scene on Mykonos is starting to take shape as the island’s top beach bars and clubs gradually announce dates for special summer events as well as details about the DJs and headline entertainers who will be appearing at their venues.

Cavo Paradiso, Paradise Club, Nammos and Solymar have already posted some party announcements on their respective websites and Facebook pages, and other Mykonos beach venues should be releasing their summer schedules soon.

Paradise Club to kick off Mykonos party season with all-night opening bash on May 21

Paradise Club Mykonos

The 2014 opening party announcement from Paradise Club

All-nighter: One of the premier party clubs on Mykonos has finally announced the date of its official opening party for 2014.

Paradise Club will kick off the Mykonos party season with an event that will start at 11 p.m. on Wednesday May 21 and continue until sunrise.

There’s no word yet on which DJs will be spinning for the opening party; nevertheless, the news will be welcomed by clubbers from around the world who have been planning to travel to Mykonos in late May. People have been asking me about Mykonos party club opening dates, and have also been inquiring on the TripAdvisor.com Mykonos forum, but until today’s announcement I couldn’t confirm when the Paradise beach party scene would be getting underway this year.

Resident DJs announced

Paradise Club says it will announce its 2014 lineup in a few weeks, but in the meantime has confirmed that its resident DJs for the summer will be Brad Wilder, 15grams and Soheil.

Tickets for the May 21 event will be available at Paradise beach and from members of a promotional team that will be circulating in Mykonos Town. Admission can also be purchased right at the club door starting at 11 p.m. that night. VIP tickets can be ordered by email by contacting this address: vip@paradiseclubmykonos.com.

Cavo Paradiso, the other major party venue at Paradise Beach, has not yet announced its opening date or summer lineup. But the club’s website says news will be coming soon about appearances by Skrillex, Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath.

Paradise Club and Cavo Paradiso both ranked high on the DJ Mag listing of the Top 100 Clubs for 2014, placing 20th and 24th, respectively.

Mykonos food and drink 2013: Where to find the best summer beach parties and special events

High on Heels at Guilty Beach Mykonos

The High on Heels all-female collective of DJs, musicians and vocalists gave a live performance June 24 at the Guilty Beach restaurant & bar at Panormos beach

Beach bashes: The names of some of the top party venues on Mykonos — including Skandinavian Bar, Paradise Club and Cavo Paradiso — are practically household words in many parts of the world. But those aren’t the only places on the island where tourists and locals love to kick up their heels and party to music by top-flight international DJs or live entertainers.

There are dozens of popular bars and clubs in the heart of Mykonos Town and several more at some of the island’s major beaches, while even a few upscale hotels and restaurants participate in the party spirit by hosting special entertainment events during the peak months of July and August.

Here’s a look at the most popular Mykonos party beaches this season, with a peek at promotional posters for upcoming events as well as some parties that have already taken place (to illustrate the scope and diversity of the island’s summer entertainment program).
